Indiana Will Continue Traminette Program in ’12
Despite losing grant dollars from the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, the Indiana Wine Grape Council will continue the succesful Indiana’s Signature Wine Campaign “Try on Traminette” during 2012. According to Jeanette Merritt, Marketing Director of the Indiana Wine Grape Council (IWGC), the Traminette marketing campaign will now be funded by the IWGC. The IWGC is funded by a state excise tax on wine.
According to Merritt, a small percentage of the excise tax funds three different IWGC programs; Viticulture, Enology and Marketing. As for Indiana Traminette, Merritt said, ‘Indiana’s Signature Wine Campaign, Try on Traminette, has been highly successful for our wineries. Over half of Indiana’s wineries are now selling Traminette and consumers have come to demand the wine. More grape acreage is being planted with Traminette vines to meet the growing demand for Indiana-grown Traminette.”
